"Smaller parties shouldn't be prioritized": Sudip Bandyopadhyay hits at TMC
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in a joint early morning operation with the Ashoknagar police station, intercepted a significant consignment of illicit weapons on the Naihati-Ashoknagar Road on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off from a secret source, the enforcement teams set up a trap near intersection number 8. Officers stopped a local passenger vehicle, locally known as a Magic car, and arrested a woman carrying a heavily loaded bag right as she stepped out onto the thoroughfare, creating a massive sensation in the busy market area.
The arrested suspect has been identified by police sources as Pooja Biswas, a resident of Ward No. 12 under the Habra Municipality. A thorough search of her personal bag revealed an extensive arsenal concealed inside, which took the inspecting officers by surprise. The CID team recovered six firearms, comprising four 7 mm pistols and two 9 mm pistols, along with 12 matching magazines, approximately 200 rounds of live cartridges, two mobile phones, and Rs 12,000 in cash.
Initial findings strongly suggest that this operation has exposed a highly organized inter-state arms trafficking ring. Investigators recovered a physical train ticket for Jamalpur in Bihar from the suspect's possession, directly pointing to operational links with the infamous manufacturing hubs in the Munger district of Bihar. The CID has formally launched an expansive investigation to uncover the designated local buyers, decode the financial channels, and track down the remaining members involved in this illicit logistics network.
